JOB DESCRIPTION
Conducts Control Surveys, Topographic Surveys, Boundary Surveys, Hydraulic Surveys, Construction
Staking Surveys, etc.
Utilizes GPS, Total Stations, Data Collectors, and Automatic Level Survey Equipment.
Prepares plans and documents for Professional Engineer or Professional Land Surveyor Review,
including but not limited to Preliminary & Final Plats, Roadways, Utilities, Landfills, Parking Lots,
Foundations, Retaining Walls, Structures, Sewer Systems etc.
Utilizes computer aided drafting, road design software and various other computer software packages to
assist in the preparation of computer-generated design plans by drafting and adding text to the design file
and producing plan sheets.
Participates in the plan review process for construction activities to ensure that quality and safety
standards are being followed.
Completes permit applications with city, county, state, and federal agencies necessary for county
construction projects.
Performs a variety of other tasks as assigned in relation to design and/or land survey projects.
REQUIREMENTS
Requires graduation from a general or technical high school or equivalent.
At least two years of Trade School education in Civil Engineering / Survey Technology or at least two
years previous experience in design/land survey activities is preferred.
Requires strong math and organizational skills.

Employee must be able to read and interpret construction/design/survey codes, regulations, and drawings
from all levels of government.
Requires ability to safely operate automobiles; lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds; work outdoors for
extended periods of time in adverse weather conditions; walk and hike in steep terrain for up to 8 hours
per day.
Requires ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; communicate orally and written;
exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in various situations; establish and maintain
effective working relationships with other employees and clients.
Requires working knowledge of a personal computer, copy and facsimile machines, in addition to
principles, methods and equipment used in construction/design/land survey trades.
Requires ability to effectively use various survey equipment; use a calculator and computer to perform
tasks as needed and prepare reports; estimate material quantities for various projects; utilize a variety of
advisory and design data and information.
Requires working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook.
Prefer at least two (2) years of experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D or Carlson Survey.
Requires valid Class F drivers license and satisfactory driving record.
Requires OSHA 10-hour Construction Course Certification prior to or within 3 months of hire date.
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.
